About Jackie Kleefield

Jackie Kleefield is a French-American writer, director, choreographer and performer from New York City where her work has been seen on Off Broadway theaters including Theater for the New City, Harold Clurman Theater, Pulse Ensemble Theatre, Ohio Theater, Soho Rep and Ubu Rep. She has performed in many international festivals including Expanded Arts Festival (USA) Field Festival (USA) and Edinburgh Fringe Festival (UK).

She moved to France in 2004 where she made a short film Ripped and TV pilot NRJ in LA. She premiered a French translation of her full-length play Conversation with My Cat at Théatre Pixel in Paris and toured her interactive disco comedy Bar Stories around the Irish pubs of Paris for 6 months.

She moved to Stockholm in 2006 and began producing variety talent shows- her first set of shows produced in 2007 at Atelje Ciresia Art Gallery in Mariatorget. There, she premiered a new theater project The Poem Show performed by herself and two other actresses, one Swedish and one Finnish. She is currently developing a screenplay adaptation of her full-length comedy play Conversations with My Cat and a dramatic film Sandbox in honor of her father's heroic journey across Europe - a boy with his mother alone on the road escaping the Nazi occupation.

Jackie teaches Simonson Jazz Dance and Integral Hatha Yoga at schools and in private groups around Stockholm

Jackie Kleefield is currently preparing to premiere BAR STORIES at SKRAPAN Center in Sodermalm for a limited run April 15 - 19, 2009. The show will take place in the interactive space of an empty store where the audience will be invited into the disco world setting of the play.

AUDITION NOW!!

ALL ARE WELCOME TO TRY OUT FOR AN AMERICAN COMEDY PLAY BY PLAYWRIGHT/DIRECTOR JACKIE KLEEFIELD. THE PREMIERE OF THE FIRST-HALF HOUR EPISODE WILL TAKE PLACE AT SKRAPAN IN LATE APRIL (DATE TO BE ANNOUNCED AT A LATER TIME)


LOOKING FOR CHARACTER ROLES:

MARIANNE – A housewife bored with staying at home, likes to go out to the disco club and have adventures


RICHARD – An accountant and Marianne's husband, lives an ordinary life and secretly shares his wife's desire for adventure


STELLA – A hair stylist and ex-disco queen once having shared the glamorous spotlight with John Travolta, now lives the bittersweet memory of what once was


ROCCO – An auto mechanic and ex-disco king who once trained alongside John Travolta at Vinnie's Disco Hut, but was left in the dust when John was discovered by Hollywood.


WANDA – A barfly who drinks tea and writes in her journal as she watches others on the dance floor dreaming of her fantasy man who will one day sweep her off her feet.


PETE – The bartender and ex-jock who keeps the disco music flowing as he secretly dreams of becoming the next Shakespeare learning words that will one day seduce the woman he loves.


MABREY – A phantom that haunts Pete's disco pad who refers to himself as 'the Spirit of Disco', he often ponders the words of French philosophers and when needed becomes the Cupid to mend broken hearts in this disco drama.
